Chapter 10

Hilton & Vonda

Hilton and Vonda enjoyed a wonderful stroll along the white, sandy beach standing arm-in-arm as they watched the sunset on the horizon. He wondered to himself what it was about this place that made everything seem perfect. Was it getting away from the pressures of life back home or was it that the place itself that was magical?

They had only been in the Bahamas for a few hours and he was already feeling like he had felt when he and Vonda were first dating. As he looked around at the beautiful paradisiac surroundings, he had no doubt that this was the perfect way to get their marriage back on track.

Worry lines etched his face though and he was thankful for the darkness of night. Vonda couldn’t see his anxiety and as the night grew longer, Hilton became even more anxious.

“Want to head back to the room?”

Vonda asked, locking her arm in his.

“Let’s walk a little longer,” he said, trying to think of a way to stall.

He took in a big breath of air and let it out slowly.

“The fresh air here is like a drug; you can really get high on it.”

Vonda chuckled at his comment and laid her head on his shoulder causing him to shudder just a bit. His whole body tensed up but relaxed again when he realized that she hadn’t noticed.

It was late when they finally returned to the hotel room. Hilton couldn’t stall anymore and he knew that Vonda was, for the first time in a long time, thinking of initiating intimacy. Normally, he would have been more than happy to perform but he knew that he had a few more days on his prescription and the doctor had warned him to avoid sexual activity of any kind until the full course of medication was completed. His heart pounded a little as he slipped the key in the door and he desperately tried to figure out an excuse to stay out of the bed.

“I’m beat,” he said as soon as they walked in the door.

He slipped off his coat and headed straight for the bathroom.

“Me too,” he heard her say just before he shut the door and locked it.

Once inside, Hilton let out a gasp of air and fell back onto the toilet seat. This was going to be harder than he thought, but he only had a few more days to be careful. He got up and started pacing the floor, trying to decide what to do.

He didn’t know how long he had remained in the bathroom. He hadn’t heard anything from Vonda since he went in and feared she was waiting for him on the other side of the door. But when he finally accepted he couldn’t hide any longer, he slowly opened the door and stepped out.

Peering into the darkness, he saw nothing. But when his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw Vonda lying on top of the covers, still completely dressed but fast asleep. Immediately he could
